If you’ve put off buying a new home, today’s market might be an especially attractive time to start your search for the home of your dreams.
With many mortgage lenders dealing with the aftermath of home loans that have soured, the real estate market has been flooded with both new and existing homes. To help try and move these parcels along, many builders and agents are offering attractive incentives to motivated buyers.
Among some of the bargains that a buyer might find would be granite countertops included as an “upsell”, builders finishing basements or other living spaces at no additional charge or property taxes being paid for a year or two by the seller. One motivated seller is even offering to pay the first 4 mortgage payments on their property that includes 20 acres and comes at a cost of $975,000.
Other home builders are offering time limited offers in order to move the property by a certain date. Orleans Homebuilders, based in Bensalem, Pa., for instance, has knocked nearly $200,000 off the price of some already built million-dollar homes in Richmond, Va., and is offering an additional $20,000 reduction for buyers who buy inventory homes before Labor Day.
What are your thoughts on these types of home discounts? Will they be enough to stimulate sales of these higher end homes? Would it be enough to get you to buy?
