Davecore said: "So I've been taking the advice of the more conservative investor, that beeing that the dumbest thing one can do is just jump into a stock without really getting to know it's trends. I've fianlly opened up an account with Scottrade and am ready to purchase however I'm in a situation with AMD!!! I wanted to buy 3 weeks ago wen it was around 32-$33 but classes have keep me from a computer really. So now it is up to $39.93!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really need the help from a wise investor here for a long term investment. I've asked about AMD before but that was more of a feel and get to know stock questions; any how the simple question is "Is AMD up to high to buy right now or should I buy the who 15 shares"?"
BenHouston said: "save your money until you have enough to buy more than 15 shares, if you dont have much money at least buy in blocks of 50 or 100 shares...
50 * 40 = 2000
You can do it save 2000 dollars"

He jumped into 4 stocks.
GOOG
AMD
ZIPR
F
RFMD
Not a bad choice, but he bought some of the too early.
AMD is at 52 high, WHY is it at that. When you can say why you will have a better view on its growth potential."
drsuck said: "Davecore I told you to buy AMD, most people here think I am an AMD Nutcase but I know the company very well and they ARE BETTER THAN INTEL! Dont let people bring you down and BUY what you want! LISTEN TO YOURSELF AND YOU RESEARCH! Your picks should not be based upon ANYONE on this thread, it is purely information to gauge your OWN choices!

Now - if your goal is "long term growth" and you can leave it alone for a year or so.... that's one thing..... However - if you want to make any profits in the near term..... find a bit more cash to be able to purchase a few more shares.... In the meantime - invest in a solid mutual fund - make regular contributions... and get where you're wanting to go "safely"......."

Yeah, thats exactly what I did early on in my investing career, while you are letting your cash build up, you can spend time finding other stocks you would like to invest into or research more on amd and figure out when would be the best time to buy in and sell."

I want to buy AMD, but I just was wondering if it will fall down the road????
I know why they are doing so good, I'm build computers and have wanted to buy AMD when they were at 13 to 15 a share, just didn't have any money at the time. So any insight on the trend of AMD would be highly appreciated. I just need to know from those who have experience if this would be the worse time to buy or do you all think it will only go up???????????
Thanks for all the replies, lovin the forum"

I'm always in and out. I usually find that the best time to buy into AMD is at around 14-16/share. They're usually worth about 21 dollars.
Recently though, they've been getting a lot of great PR and they're getting good business coming in. Their chips are great - I think they've beat INTEL in hyperthreading and performance processing, but they don't have the manufacturing capacity that Intel has. This will be an interesting run.
I currently have 500 shares in AMD purchased for about 16 dollars that I've been holding since April. Good mark up."
bennettbike said: "yeah man dont buy 15 shares. remember commission ... no opinion...
paper trade the 15 shares okay.
sit at home, and pretend you bought the 15 shares and keep a fake book with money spent + commissons. see how long it takes till you realize your making no money."
drsuck said: "Dont even paper trade 15 shares LOL. Wait until it goes down or go else where. The stock is going to go up but if you cant afford more than 50 shares dont DO IT!

Davecore said: "I know, I can purchase 50 shares I was just saying a number sorry about that. Anyway I almost feel that AMD isnt the thing to buy right now. I'm a AMD man but I think INtel would be a better investment while its so low. Unless AMD can gain a large market share in processors fast before Intel starts pounding out their new 45nm processors, I don't really see amd going up anymore than 40ish. All I know is Intel isn't going to disapper from the market they have something up their sleeve!
I guess I'll do some paper trading with AMD and Intel and go ahead and invest in some other companies I know about. (i.e. ATI or Ford)
Thanks all of yall for keeping me from gettin bit by the stock bug and just jumpin in head first."
SMKID said: "I would buy Intel, IMO. If AMD can sky rocket on some dissapointing Intel news.....Intel can sky rocket on some dissapointing AMD news. I like Intel in the long run (even more so when it was really low a day or 2 ago)"
