HD and LOW both tanked on the news. Thankfully, three weeks later, both LOW and HD recouped their losses in grand fashion upon their respective earnings releases. Today, Toll Bros did the same thing. Lowering expectations for 2006. As last time, both HD and LOW tanked on the news. Hoping for a repeat of last quarter - I loaded up on both and am sitting "long" on a bit over 5000 shares. Hoping like crazy that earnings will be good in a few weeks and I'll end up "sitting pretty". It's a tough ride..... but somebodys got to do it. Wish me luck!! :o"

thezster said: "Todays "so - so" news included the following: Shares of Home Depot Inc. and Lowe's Cos. moved moderately higher. Bank of America analyst David Strasser said he expects the nation's No. 1 and No. 2 home-improvement retailers to report better-than-expected quarterly results when the numbers come out Feb. 21 and Feb. 27, respectively. Hoping he's right - those 5000 shares are getting pretty heavy.... though they're making slow but sure upwards progress....... Another couple of weeks and I should be throwing a party......."

thezster said: "Getting into the "serious black" today - and am tempted to sell - hoping it drops a bit before earnings. (UP $7k on the day) BUT - recognizing that doing so cost me a lot of $$ last year - I'm going to sit back and let her ride. Gawd - I love this game (and, it is exactly that - a game with serious consequences). ;)"

thezster said: "That's typically my response too.... however - I put a pencil to that strategy on last year's trades.... and recognized I left over 50K "on the table" by doing so. I'm gonna "modify" my strategy a bit on this one. While I'm up by a good margin on my HD/LOW - I fully expect their earnings to be very, very good (thanks to Katrina)..... and hope to (HOPE TO) get out with around $4.00 profit/share on them."

HappyHarry said: "As long as your initial reasons for buying the stock haven't changed, holding makes sense. I love holding."

thezster said: "Another great day for my earlier picks of HD/LOW (anybody taking notes?). I'm in the serious black numbers now - but am still holding (amazing for me) - waiting another week+ for earnings.... I recognize that few in this forum can jump into those equities in decent volume... but the day will come -- and you should realize that there is short term $$ to be made - even with the slightly pricier stocks...."

thezster said: "HD/LOW/FRO - all experiencing solid gains for the third day in a row..... I'm chomping at the bit to "sell" but am waiting another week for the highly anticpated earnings reports. The biggest horse in my stable is HD at 4000+ shares..... and I'm putting in a "sell" at $43.30... which will provide a nice $4.77/share profit over the past 3 weeks. Wouldn't surprise me if she went to $44+ ----- but I'm not greedy! Smallest horse is FRO (2000 shares - thanks LanceJ for turning me on to this jewel) - which should provide a solid dividend in a week or so..... not to mention the gain from my cheap buy in last week ($37.47). Assuming all goes well - I anticipate a blockbuster first quarter. :) - Just in time to pull out $40K from my day trading account to finance my new R.E. property."

$peculator said: "Z, you got a stop loss on any of those stocks?"

thezster said: "No stop loss yet - I anticipate continued solid rise up to earnings. At that point I'll consider setting a stop. Last time this happened, I missed out by not selling in pre-trading, at which time HD went up to $44.2..... and I waited till the bell and had to sell at $43.7.....- which was pretty much the high for the day. I think a trailing stop will probably work - just have to decide where to set it.."

thezster said: "HD announced great earnings and beat expectations.... sold all my shares (5000+) in pre market for a solid $4.00/share gain. :D Will it go higher during regular trading?? Woulda/coulda/shoulda..... ;) Happy day to all ............"

drdan said: "Excellent profit on a 10% gain!!! 20K will fix up your new house pretty easily! Then you can double that profit on the selling of the house. Things are looking real positive for you!!!"

thezster said: "Then I told my wife how we had done in pre-market - her response: "That's great - can I go shoppin?""

thezster said: "Just as it did last quarter on earnings - HD jumped "big time" in pre-market to $43.35+ - and is settling back down during regular trading (currently $42.50). Unlike last quarter - this time I sold during pre-market - which makes me a very lucky (good?), happy camper. I love this game!! ;)"
