HappyHarry said: "Haven't had time yet! I contacted a guy and he does classes for both concealed carry and for basics. He didn't have enough people for the basics yet, but he said soon. I figure I'll take them both soon.
You know what's sad? I do sit around shooting it into a mirror! LOL. This may be the start of something else I can addicted to."
bobjitsu said: "It will be, my friend. I started out the same way, with a G27, now I have around 30-40 firearms....it's a sickness!!"
Darren said: "never point it at someone unless you plan on shooting them!"
Heather said: "Getting proper training to use a firearm is the best way to do it, I think.
2005 is going to be the year that I learn a lot about self defense. It is never a bad idea to have that in your "toolbox" of life. I am not interested in being a "victim" of some have-not."
HappyHarry said: "Well, yeah. The answer seemed obvious to me. I really don't want to have an illegal handgun. If I was just some redneck I would probably go stand on the corner and fire this off, but I can't. My neighbors would not be happy!"
Heather said: "Bobjitsu.. Can you target practice anywhere in the desert or are there ranges out there? Some of the photos you've posted just look to be out in the middle of nowhere."
bobjitsu said: "I belong to an outdoor range that is huge but you can shoot anywhere on BLM land as long as your not within like 1000 ft of a road or building. BLM owns about 95% of Nevada."
HappyHarry said: "Bob, quick question: how do you get the bullets in the clip?
I think I'm missing a tool or something."
bobjitsu said: "
Bob, quick question: how do you get the bullets in the clip?

Glocks do come with a piece of plastic but I never use it. Just put the back of the casing on the mag follower and push down then slide the bullet back and release. Tell me if this helps you or not.
BTW... gunowners don't call it a "clip", you call it a "magazine" or "mag"....gun-grabbers call them "clips". :D"
bobjitsu said: "Harry, did you take that class on gun safety? I hope so....remember....
KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER!!!!"
HappyHarry said: "Gotya! A magazine.
Yes, I have the class on Tuesday: the NRA Short Course."
bobjitsu said: "Did ya get the bullets in the mag?"
HappyHarry said: "No, but I think I could now. You don't open the mag at all, you just load the damn bullets in!
I guess I'll just wait until Tuesday. I'd hate to shoot myself before the class ;)
Are you up early or late?"
bobjitsu said: "I was up early.....yea don't open the mag, that would be no good. I just picked up some Glock 18 mags.....the Glock 18 is a full auto pistol only military and LEO's can have....but we can own the mags at least...they hold 31 rounds of 9mm....they would work in your G17 and G19. Here is a pic of them and one in my G26 carry pistol..of course I won't carry with these but they do make good mags for the range so I don't have to keep reloading all the time.

HappyHarry said: "That's exactly what I was gonna get before I go practicing.
Maybe they have them at Gandor Mountain."
bobjitsu said: "Don't overpay for them though. They should be in the $30 or maybe a little more range...remember the Assualt Weapon Ban is dead and the days of $100+ prices for these are gone.
If you want to know a good place to judge handgun parts, mags and prices look here...

HappyHarry said: "Cool. I hit the WalMart and got 2 of the 100 Value Pack from Winchester.
Much better than the first price I paid."
bobjitsu said: "Winchester white box value packs...ammo from Heaven! :D"
HappyHarry said: "Yeah. Like $10.26 each pack. I was amazed!"
bobjitsu said: "Decent prices on Glock mags...

HappyHarry said: "Thanks, looking good.
I'll probably buy a few of the high capacity "mags" as I refer to them ;)
First I'll go to the class tomorrow. At this same place they have 1 hour of range shooting for $16 for two people. Now I need to see how much I'll really shoot in an hour."
AlfredSokol said: "So how was it?"
HappyHarry said: "It was great! I now have my NRA Short Course certificate. I learned everything I needed to know.
I'll probably join this range. It's like $275 for the year for unlimited shooting. This was definitely fun."
bobjitsu said: "That's great Harry! Hoping to see some pics soon of you at the range. I'm a certified NRA Range Safety Officer and can't stress enough what you heard a thousand times yesterday...keep your finger off the trigger. I hate opening the paper and reading about a kid who shot his best friend because the gun just "went off"....guns don't go off, only if the trigger is pulled. I take some of my niece's friends from highschool out and teach them proper gun handling and safety, I really think it may save a life someday. :)"
Heather said: "Always want to be careful when you are handling firearms.
ALWAYS!
Do you also take karate, Bobjitsu?"
HappyHarry said: "I would assume he is. Isn't BobJutsu a variation of "BoJutsu", the art of Stick-Fighting?"
bobjitsu said: "I took Okinawan karate for 5 years and I just kinda liked the name. Jujitsu, Bobjitsu......same thing. :)"
Heather said: "
I took Okinawan karate for 5 years and I just kinda liked the name. Jujitsu, Bobjitsu......same thing. :)
Cool. What belt did you get up to?"
HappyHarry said: "He got the belt that "holds up his pants" I bet :)"
bobjitsu said: "
Cool. What belt did you get up to?
It was actually pretty cool, my instructor was a guy who studied in Okinawa and here for about 30 years. He had a clas in his house 2x a week with 3-4 students, me being one. Unlike most systems we only had 4 belts with a stripe on each side..so it was
White belt
White belt with 1 stripe
White belt with 2 stripes
Then Green belt...same way with the stripes
Then Brown belt...same way with the stripes
Then Black....
I made brown with 2 stripes then had to bow out due to starting my buisness and getting married....I really enjoyed it. The belts for us were just a formality for staying in the system, we never wore them or cared what belt who had....
...and for what Harry said...now it's a leather belt with a Glock 27 on it. ;)"
Heather said: "Either way, you're not a man to mess with :)
Do your arms normally hurt a little after you go out to the firing range?
It seems it might be a little physical to do?"
bobjitsu said: "The only times my body aches after shooting is if I shoot alot of shotgun, which I love to do but it really punishes the body for about 3 days after or if I shoot this...a .454 Casull....I can take about 5-10 rounds then it feels like my wrist is gonna snap off.

HappyHarry said: "The Glock packs a real punch. The 9 mm rounds were loud!"
bobjitsu said: "
The Glock packs a real punch. The 9 mm rounds were loud!
How many rounds did ya shoot? What kind of hearing protection were you wearing? I usually use foam plugs and a set of ear muffs...my hearing is bad enough already, I really need to keep what I have."
HappyHarry said: "I had some sort of Remington ear muffs. We shot around 40 in the Glock and we shot around 5 to 10 in all the other variations of guns, 22, 38, 40, 45 and 9mm."
bobjitsu said: "I kinda like the old school hearing protection but maybe look into the electronic ear muffs...lots of guys love them. You can hear everything at low levels..they only block the high db's. You can carry a conversation without yelling and you can hear people walking behind you or stuff like that...I may break down and get a pair someday.
What did you think of the .45? Pretty stout eh?"
HappyHarry said: "Yeah, I sort of like the .45, in particular the revolver. The nice thing about this range is they have $5 gun rentals, so you can try out a bunch.
I actually did okay with the shooting, too. The "suspect" would be dead. The range was only like 25 feet away, but what the heck?"
bobjitsu said: "Stats show most gunfights happen in about 10 feet or less actually."
AlfredSokol said: "So at that point, its just all a matter of the "draw" right?"
bobjitsu said: "
So at that point, its just all a matter of the "draw" right?
Not really, you would be surprised when the adrenaline gets pumping that much how many guys can shoot 10 rounds and miss every single one. Training and skill will beat a fast draw anyday. One of the most important aspects of CCW'ing is knowing most criminals work in pairs or more....so if your in line at a store or a bank and some guy is robbing them you have to consider is his partner is around, maybe behind you."
bobjitsu said: "Harry, this is about as good of price your gonna find on those 32 round Glock 9mm mags..
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=89&t=246429
$30 ea"
HappyHarry said: "Looks good. The guy at the gun shop told me their illegal in Ohio (one of 2 states). So I'm not sure what the deal is."
