If you haven't seen this site yet check it out, this is where I've gotten my knives and he takes really good pics.

I have a few by Lovestrand but most of my collection is from Mike Snody. Its Japanese Knives. I like Japenese things, like my truck, Nissan Frontier. I get mine direct from a friend through this url

I guess direct through a friend isnt really proper, but if you click available knives it doesnt show any, but my friend is a HUGE collector and gets loads through them and I pick and choose from him."
AlfredSokol said: "What makes a knife stand out for quality?"
WellsTrader said: "If it is hand made and hand crafted. Also finding a good brand ensure quality."
bobjitsu said: "
What makes a knife stand out for quality?
For handmade custom knives it all in who makes them. The name of the guy who made it dictates the price. D' Alton Holder is one of the top fixed blade knife makers in the world, his knives command a premium. If someone new made a knife just as good and just as beautiful it wouldn't sell for very much at all."
WellsTrader said: "Happy Harry-- Why CD's and Bonds? They struggle to keep up with inflation dont you think? Youd have better luck owning a Barry Bonds Baseball Card and a New Kids on The Block CD. lol"
AlfredSokol said: "So I assume there are parallels to how Art is bought and sold?"
panhandledancer said: "I started collecting knives as a hobby years ago .. Then found out that are a great investment.
Custom Randalls are good if you can out live the 4 year wait .. the standard stock models are just OK as investments.
The well known makers like D'Holder, Randy Lee, S.R. Johnson, Ron Gaston, Ruffin Johnson, Jim Siska, Terry Primos are a great place to start but expect to pay more for them.
There are so many great less known custom knife maker that are also great investments like Richard Self, Weldon Whitley, Dennis Riley, David Brodziak,Terry Cook, James R. Shaver .. just to name a few.
If I had taken all my retirement funds and invested them in special order Randalls knifvs .. I'd be better off then having to invest that money in stocks & bonds."
Heather said: "Hi panhandler.
How much have they went up in worth since you bought them?"
HappyHarry said: "Knives and swords have always fascinated mankind."

Pb3190 said: "I'll have to try and find the link again, but there is a 'Principality of Sealand' off the coast of the UK. It was a British naval outpost during WWII, but some family got ahold of it, and claimed it as their own since it is outside of territorial waters.
Anyway, they rent space out for secure data servers since the location is so remote and I think are planning some type of casino thing.
Having a country would be neat..."
lil dickie said: "Im sures theres quite a bit of downside to owning an island. But it sounds cool though."
FirefighterB said: "I definitely think that'd be cool. I watched a History/Discovery Channel thing on the Principality of Sealand. Pretty friggin cool, except for the lack of human contact (especially of the female persuasion OUTSIDE of your family).
Actually, it caught fire and burned pretty badly not too long ago. If you google "Sealand" the pics of it on fire pop right up.
By the time I retire, my goal is to own an island in a nice tropical location. Don't really care where, but I'll have one..."
Pb3190 said: "Owning an island would be nice, but also cause a hassle. You would have to get to it, and get everything there. I hope to one day buy land out on the Florida Keys or something like that... enough land for privacy, but also have everything I would need close by."
FirefighterB said: "Keys is where I'm thinking, too. Depending on whether they're still there when I retire and haven't been blown away by a hurricane or flooded out. Hahaha."
AlfredSokol said: "That's the whole problem with Florida. Too many hurricanes."
FirefighterB said: "I've come to the realization that EVERYWHERE nice has the potential for something seriously bad to happen. The tropics have hurricanes, Hawaii has volcanoes, California has earthquates and fires, FL has 'canes and is running out of water, the North has winter, etc...
Of course, I guess if somewhere were truly "paradise," everyone would be there."
Pb3190 said: "I love the winter FF...
Ever since we moved down South winter has become a joke. The entire city shuts down and schools close over an inch of snow. And if there is even a hint of winter weather coming, the weather guys and gals on TV go crazy."
FirefighterB said: "Hahaha. I think I pretty much hate winter and the only reason I don't say fully, 100%, that I HATE winter, is that I do really enjoy when it snows. It's such serene thing that even this bustling, loud city seems to sound quiet. But, then again, two days later, it's piled up, turned brown, half melted, covering the sidewalk so you can't walk, getting (somehow) down in your shoe so your sock gets wet and your feet freeze.
You've gotta wear heavy coats, scarves, gloves, a hat, sweaters, etc., yet everywhere you go has the same heat inside. Now you're stuck lugging all of that crap around, finding a spot that's not in the way to store it, or sweating your ass off as you walk with it on. Those windy days when it just bites at your face, cuts right through all of your layers, and WON'T stop blowing. The constant snot dripping out of your nose, or the fact that it's bone-dry because there's no humidity inside or outside. The fact that...
I hate it. Surprisingly less than I used to a few years ago, but I still am not a fan. I'd take 95 degrees over 25 any day and twice on Sundays. I don't mind a little sweat and worrying about getting sunburned.
My retirement will most definitely be tropical; not to the mountains of CO, MT, or WY. Now, I would definitely be down to buy a place in one of those locales, but I wouldn't spend a majority of my time there."
AlfredSokol said: "What's not to hate about the winter? Especially as you get older."
Pb3190 said: "I think from a younger point of view, winter weather is still fun. I can see your reasoning though, the day after the nice white powder everything melts into brown slush."
