Do you drink PEET's?Do you drink PEET's?
Corey said: "My family was talking about Coffee today, and how despite Starbucks' outrageous prices, they were still willing to pay. Then my mother and my uncle began raving about Peet's Coffee -- which I had never heard of.
Trying to be extra aware lately, using 'social indicators', I did some sleuth work. On paper, I can't say this company is anything special -- but by the way these two were going on, you would think they had struck gold with Peet's coffee. By fundamental methods, comparing the company to SBUX and GMRC, I don't see much special. In fact, PEETs is probably the worst of the bunch on paper. Charting it doesn't show much either. It went sideways for a good while, dropped a bit, and seems to be around a 2 year average. For the extra price I would be paying, it doesn't make much sense.
I was wondering if anyone else had heard about this company, or had any relatives that knew about it. I think I am going to ask around and see what my other coffee drinking friends have to say -- I might be willing to pay a little extra for the growth prospects. I don't think coffee is a passing fad -- and I would be surprised if Starbucks didn't get a serious competitor soon (in the next three years).
Maybe PEETs will be it?
Anyone done any research into this guy before? I will do some more and let you guys know what I find..."

Corey said: "Some more research on this guys seems to show that they took the 'grocery store' route instead of opening their own stores like SBUX did. They offer over the net ordering, et cetera. They have a couple locations.
Still no word as to expansion plans.
I am debating calling the company's investment relations to see what grub I can dig up."
Corey said: "Hate to res a dead thread but ... I finally found a store (in Lexington, MA). It was a Monday night at about 9:00, so there was only one person in it, but the store looked very well maintained and very upscale. It reminded me of SBUX without the 'hipster' feel to it.
I think I will do a drive by sometime this break to see if any more people are there. I might stop in and grab a drink and talk to the people that work there."

whether it's worth buying is a separate issue, but great strong coffee and the stores i have been to are always packed. strong loyalty (i won't go to the evil empire if there's a peets) is another plus.
long live the smaller coffee companies. as good as sbux is, it's nice that there are still alternatives in many parts of the country."
Harry said: "Here is NJ Starbucks appears to be the dominant force in designer coffee.
Panera Bread Co. and Au Bon Pain are to businesses that sell designer coffee with assorted pastries, sandwiches, soups...but the coffee isn't as good as Starbucks IMHO.
Locally Dunkin Donuts coffee is a staple for many...it's good and affordable but I think the quality has gone down over the years while they've tried to fancy up the selection.
Aside from investing....good coffee...
I'm somewhat of a coffee specialist...I actually considered opening a shop at one time. Believe me, find a local independent who imports their "green beans" and roasts them on the premises. You'll find coffee flavor that now of the big chains can ever offer.
I am so blessed that such a place is in my town,,,
http://www.greenesbeans.com/ ...this coffee is HEAVENLY!!!! :th_angelsmiley4:
BTW: Fine me a public chain that roasts on the premises and I'm investing!
On investing...the cost of coffee IS going up this year. It may repress Starbuck's earnings a bit."
