No worries though Ben I thought the same when I was your age. Not offended at all.
I do agree with you that this spam should be deleted quick!"

Yep... poor and very weak-minded. Brainwashing to the max.
Did you ever notice every religion thinks that their way is the correct way? They condemn and lambast all that disagree with them."

you guys dont honestly believe that, do you?
food for thought, conservatives are generally religious people, religous people favor conservative law, conservative law favors rich people, rich people dont get rich with a weak mind (most of them)...."

If you look at the poor areas in the middle east for example (palestine)....they feel there is no hope for them. They think their is no way to financial prosperity, so they all turn to religion.
And the reason why I said weak minded is that other people (that arent poor) need to believe in something. They cannot accept the fact that we are just here. Now don't get me wrong I am not preaching hedonism here, I am just stating my very generalized opinions."

I'm far from a holy roller.... But am religious enough to appreciate the poor attempt by the originator of this poster to "reach out". He/she just has the wrong approach.
I'll just leave it to say - I believe - and am hardly a "weak minded individual from the lower classes".
To each their own - as long as they're not one of my closely held loved ones....
Nuff said!"

Lets see if I can get one more post in here before Darren comes in and blasts this thread to h***(wait I am a Christian, not going to talk that way).
I think this is a poor argument Ben. Religion is ALL they have. Religion is the only thing that can give them hope. What would you do if your world was a pile of crap and you saw no way out and someone was offering you hope. You are looking at religion through your eyes of living in a country that allows you to choose anything. A land of prosperity living right next door to THE country that thrives on prosperity. These people are not weak minded they just have no other choice."

Sorry, I should clarify myself a bit more... Anyone that goes to religious extremes and totally looses himself to religion is weak-minded.
I don't support anything that pontificates you, or tells people they're going to hell if they don't do this or that. That's ridiculous."

Atleast they get 72 virgins after they die. I do have to ask, what does a dead person that no longer needs to procreate do with one virgin, never mind 72?!? Maybe that is really their hell?
My beef with Cristianism is that if they didn't leave out the parts of the bible that really didn't make any sense or are contridictory (the old testament), Cristianity would be the laughing stock of the world. They also wouldn't make all the money they are making."

IMO the Bible should be read allegorically/metaphorically/figuratively/whatever-you-want-to-call-it-ly and not literally, sort of like Dante's Commedia. A literal interpretation of the Bible is the wrong way to look at it. It's actually a very profound text on many different levels (I guess that's obvious though). I recently got done with St. Augustine of Hippo's Confessions and St. Thomas Aquinas's Treatise on Law and the things these theologians can extract from the text are amazing."

My last post in this thread. All I can say is that I am amazed and proud to be a part of this forum when we can discuss religion of all things and have it be a nice easy going discussion. Excellent to all of us as I pat us all on the backs.
Want to try politics next???"

FirefighterB said: "I am not a believer in organized religion because I don't believe that anyone is "wrong" in their beliefs. This is probably due to the fact that I'm a mutt of religions and am hesitant to believe that anyone in my family is going to "hell."
I believe that spirituality is important and is an extremely positive (and extremely negative, too) on the lives of many. As long as it doesn't get overzealous or "whose right," then I'm all for it.
If you're interested, read The Celestine Prophecy and The Road Less Traveled. Both come from totally different perspectives but give great views and ideas on religion, spirituality, etc. The religious follower and the atheist can both probably get something out of these books if you're willing to listen. (Not to be a...well, not Bible, but Paperback beater)"
