any thoughts ? maybe a push back too 9 in the following weeks:signs053:"

Now it's sitting at 8.41. It has been rising consistently for the past month or so from 6.90 to 8.41.
25th is the earning's day. If the earnings (losses) are "not very bad" then it will continue its march else will go down again.
These are just my thoughts."

Don't worry...wait till tommorrow's losses are posted. You'll see 6 again."

What's up with Ford
Even after reporting the worst loss it has bounced up nicely!
Very weird but I am happy! :signs047:"

I hear you but I thought it should go back to at least 7.5 in the next few days or so.
May be Wall Street knows something that we don't.
May be Toyota alliance announcement is in the pipeline? Just my thoughts!"
thezster said: "A 15% drop in price is not unheard of (unusual, yes... unheard of... no) for a mid size/large size company... But, for a behemoth like F..... it's a huge, huge thing....."

I was a little shocked by this, as well. Especially when you consider that CAT is expecting good earnings and dropped almost 2% in after hours (now back at about 0.4%) AND that Toyota dumped about 2.5% for no real reason.
I'm thinking CAT was down on bad home sales figures, the downgrade (eh), the unemployment level (not a very solid indicator with the holidays and such), and the fact that, perhaps, many did not want to be left holding it through earnings with such negative happenings nearby.
Just my take..."
thezster said: "Nah... CAT's dump was due, in my mind - to nothing more than an analyst downgrade - and, should be quickly overcome..."
FirefighterB said: "It would make good sense. It went up about the same percentage on the upgrade, didn't it?
Another question, though. Is this a general point to watch for? Say a pretty solid stock receives a downgrade that appears unwarranted; does it usually drop about this same % and then increase?"

Never say "usually"... As soon as you start to play stocks with a method... the method will fail. I will say, today's market is extremely overreactive to news, both good and bad - but especially bad.... I like to buy on a heavy dump that is due to a downgrade, less than stellar earnings, etc.... and have been extremely lucky to be able to make a buck or two within days of the bad event as things get back to normal. Today's investor/average person - has a very, very short memory...."
FirefighterB said: "I definitely hear you on using the usually/never/always/etc. terms when it comes to picking the stock market. From what I have seen as of late, which is little because I have not had any time to really follow the markets, it seems as though there has been quite an overreaction to news, then a correction.
Just curious what the master thought. I accept fault for not keeping up on my learning of the market, but this new job is kickin my butt with learning about it and I was tired of leaving my money in the "cash" section of my brokerage...
As always, thank you for the advice, Z. Hope CAT does well today, for both of us."

Ford To Hold News Conference From Chicago Auto Show on Wednesday!
I am not sure whether it's a good or bad but something is there for sure...let's see!
Quite interestingly Ford climbed @ 21 cents today and broke 8.50 level too!"

As a corporation and an organziation FORD is in full failure mode. It's totally trampled. What helps them stay alive? What keeps the stock price up to 7 and 8? ...the fact that they're an American institution???????
At best FORD will redevelop into a small car companty at best. But meanwhile GROWTH isn't even in the vocabulary...can I say SHRINKAGE?????:banghead:"

Why, the guidence is so-so under the best conditions.
It's a FANTASTIC 1,2, or 3 year investment though. There best business right now is not within the US shores."

would you say shorting ford might be a good trading idea Harry?"

Try shorting if you dare... :)"

I think that's exactly it - Ford is an American institution. They teach about Henry Ford's invention of the assembly line to little kids in school. It's as synonymous with America as apple pie and a high crime rate. People just can't imagine that Ford would ever go out of business, so they keep buying it up. I thought about buying some, but after hearing how much money they lost this year, I changed my mind in short order - I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
"Hey, Ford said they were in debt up to their eyeballs today!"
"Yeah, and they also said something about a plan for recovery!"
"Recovery! Of course they're going to recover! Let's go buy some!""
thezster said: "It was announced that Ford lost around $4000 for each vehicle they sold in 2006 - which is absoluteldy incredible to me.... How can a company stay in business doing this?"
dumaman said: "so if thats the case why is ford slowly rising each week... wouldnt all this crap news send this stock back too the toilet in the 6/7 range in a fairly short period of time?"

If you are going to play the news, you better have the newspapers for 6 to 9 months from now."

Really I'd rather invest in India's Tata Motors Ltd. (TTM).
A recovery for FORD means being a very small automobile company. Market status and position will be gone.
I see a $3 stock. The $8 level is a group of loyalists to me."
newinvestor123 said: "
Really I'd rather invest in India's Tata Motors Ltd. (TTM)
I was looking at that the other day. Sounds like a great idea - $3,000 cars, a developing economy, and a huge (huge!!!) potential market.... Almost sounds too good to be true."
Corey said: "I won't touch TTM with a 6 foot pole simply because the guys over at Motley Fool were pumping it about 6 months ago.
And yet, the fundamentals seem rather tantalizing. I mean...its stock price is only 12% larger than its revenue per share. If I can get some information on debt, contracts, and future plans ... well, not that MF has stopped preaching it, it might be time to take another looksie."

There's always somebody pumping everything. Jim Cramer was pushing it last year. I watch and wait for a pull back. For me $19.50 might be a good time to plop half of a position, then I'll plop the second half it is goes down another dollar. I'll be spying for a most recenrt conference call when time permits."
