BarbBQ said: "i think it is a better way of doing things. the owner stands to make more money on their real estate if they don't have to pay a realtor to sell it for them. if nothing else, the seller has the control in the dealings, which probably makes them feel better."

Heather said: "We went through a realtor when we bought our house. I guess it's because it was easier to look for property that was listed. Driving around looking for FSBO signs would have taken too much time I think. I might take the extra time to the next time we buy a house, though."

Look both ways before you cross the street, I say. Use a broker, but keep your eye peeled on FSBOs at the same time. If you should find a house you like through the online MLS, find a buyer broker who'll give you a rebate on the commission."

bigp said: "You should keep your options open. Why close yourself off when looking for properties? Sellers usually pay commissions, so it is in your interest to use realtors when buying. Finding FSBOs is a great way to go as well."
