Windows XP home edition purchaseWindows XP home edition purchase

Anyone have any experience buying off of E-bay or similar - which requires the seller also selling a piece of junk hardware so you can tell Microsoft that you had to reconfigure your computer? I know it's a "way around" the normal licensing process.... and much cheaper - but is it worth the hassle?? Or should I just go out and buy the retail pack for a couple hundred bucks....??"

I dunno... I'm about to go shopping now... I think the upgrade version is around $89 - and the full blown is around $199... I've got Windows 2000 on the unit now... so I'm thinking I'm looking at around the $89 price.... (not trying to get a deal, I just don't know right now).... What you want for it?"

You can do a clean install with an upgrade copy. Just install XP like normal and at some point it'll ask you for the disk of your previous OS. It just needs to verify you qualify for the upgrade copy.
A clean install is much more stable than trying to install over the top of 2000.
I'd take $150 for it. Its Service Pack 1 version. I've had it for awhile."

Keep in mind... this is for a 3 year olds computer (not a 3 year old computer)....."

bigmike said: "Good point thezster, for a three year old I would defintely recommend XP Home instead of office since it is an easier envirment to work with and to control what she can and cannot go onto.
XP Pro is made more for teens and people that are using their computers on the go, for business or for school and need to have a very secure network and be able to access Wi-FI."

Little booger has a nightly routine of playing with Mom/Dad on the Noggin web site.... seems she is paying close attention....
I was in the basement working with her watchin the tube... then suddenly she was gone.... I found her on the computer in my office... somehow she had found her favorite web site - was playing games and printing out some of the "computer painting" that is on the site... I was astounded... So, I turned it off and made her start over... She did it again...
Time to get her her own computer so she won't mess up mine when she makes a mistake and gets frustrated(starts pounding the keyboard) - opening programs all over the place.. and such. Her unit is a 5 year old Dell - still pretty strong unit - but it's been in my basement collecting dust....."

The HP desktop my parents use is from 2000, my sister has one from 2003, and I got lucky with my new laptop. As far as word processing and internet, the older computers are no better than mine. I actually like the Microsoft Office 2003 better than the 2007. I guess I don't like change."
