On a side note, does anyone know if plutonium is also used? That may also be another hot sector in the future."

Rickster said: "Yes there were good reasons behind the initial rise in uranium prices, but it seems to me that current prices are in the bubble regime and no longer have any relationship to fundamentals. So, whether the price goes up or down depends on "animal spirits." And I rely on Z for prediction of animal spirits. Back to you Z. Haha."

Plutonium is a by product of nuclear reactions and is found in spent fuel. That is, it isn't mined. Jimmy Carter (spelled, i-d-i-o-t) outlawed spent fuel reprocessing, so there are no commercial sources of plutonium. At this point, most spent fuel is stored in spent fuel pools of utilities with nuke plants. Some was returned under contract to the original manufacturers in spent fuel casks. I am not sure what happened to it, but I think it resides in large fuel pools. "Someday" spent fuel may be very valuable. But right now, it is still considered a liability."

Considering the reactors that are being built all over the world it might be a good time to start stalking a bottom.
Anybody know a good Uranium ETF? :whacky011:"
