The Exxon numbers are really staggering. But I guess it makes sense...people are always going to need energy."

WOW! $25 billion in 2004 net income applicable to common shares. Man, that is just incomprehensible. It really is amazing how collossal come companies have become. Some of them I see as good investments but owning something like GE and holding onto it for years only to realize an average return that just slightly outpaces US real GDP just isn't a very exciting prospect for me. The Forbes 2000 is a list of the world's leading companies is measured by a compositite of sales, profits, assets and market value and in 2004 they were in order:
1. Citigroup
2. General Electric
3. AIG
4. ExxonMobile
5. BP
6. Bank of America
7. HSBC
8. Toyota Motor
9. Fannie Mae
10. Wal-Mart
So out of that we have 2 oil companies, 4 banks and financial services conglomerates, 1 unwriter of big ticket insurance, 1 industrial/financial/energy conglomerate, one car company and then...WAL-MART! I think the most notable thing about this list is that a company in Wal-Mart's business has reached a level at which it can be counted amongst the names above."
