Portfolio software: recommendations please

adrian.stock22 said: "Hi All, I live in the UK and am looking for Portfolio Software suitable for use in this country. Until just over a year ago, I used Quicken to handle personal accounts and business accounts. Then I switched to Quickbooks Pro, which I now use for both types of account. However, Quickbooks does not have facilities specifically designed for tracking stocks (shares, bonds, etc). I therefore had to continue using Quicken just for a personal portfolio. I want to get away from Quicken (because its portfolio facilities are not its primary function and because it is no longer sold and supported in the UK). Instead I am looking for a program which is specifically designed as portfolio tracking software (or whatever it is called), i.e. accounting for shares, bonds, and other stock exchange products. The primary purpose of the software wanted is to keep track of an existing portfolio, with few changes, FOR TAXATION PURPOSES. If whatever program is suggested is useful for trading as well, that will be a bonus but not at present essential. Cost will also be a consideration. I find a monthly or annual subscription not attractive in the present circumstances. I prefer to pay a single sum for purchasing the program. I don't have a clue whether there is a product which is the 'obvious choice', or the most popular (like Quickbooks is in its own field), or the best supported, or perhaps something Open Source (and therefore not likely to be abandoned, as Quicken is now being abandoned in the UK). Important considerations --------------------------- 1 Must run on Windows 2000 2 Must deal with all tax aspects 3 If it ALSO helps in making investment and trading decisions, so much the better. 4 Should be affordable (i.e. want to BUY the program, not to hire it) 5 Should be widely used (something that is the 'obvious' choice, like MS Word is for wordprocessing 6 Not likely to be superseded or support abandoned by its makers 7 Should have a wide user-base so that it is easy to get advice from other users. 8 If there is a users forum (as there is for Quickbooks) for mutual help, this would be a great advantage. --------------------------------------------- Which products should I look at? Which are the most important, most widespread, etc? Thanks for your help. Adrian"
