Your grandpa must be very old. Berkshire Hathaway went public in 1839 as a textile company. Buffett began buying up their stock (already publicly traded) in the early 60's, and perhaps that's what you meant. But it still wasn't really profitable for some years after that as Buffett had to first do battle with the original founders.
But there's not very much technical about BH. Their primary business is insurance."

For every story of fortune, you'll find your share of stories of shirts being lost.
A safer avenue, for myself anyway, is to be more intimate with the operations of a business that I'm investing in.
The internal knowledge gives one better control over one's decisions."

I added a company called TICC to my watchlist because they have crazy dividends and I was curious to see what would go on. I'm no better off by 'watching' than I was before since I don't grasp how to read charts ect. but it's still intriguing.
Anyway, my question is, would investing in a Technology investment company make sense? Not this company in particular, per se, but any of them?
Are they considered a financial sector or a tech sector?
Thanks."
