Keyboard said: "I am thinking of getting Investing For Dummies, because as of now, I have absolutely no knowledge about investing. However, it is something I am VERY interested in learning about, and hopefully in the next couple of months (after many hours of research), I want to invest. Is this a good book if I have no previous knowledge of investing? Any other recommended? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. P.S. I did read the other threads, but didn't find anything on this book, and everybody posted a different recommended book so I'm just looking for some clarification."

LongArm said: "Nuttin' wrong with 'Investing For Dummies' as a starter book. Yeah, 'Practical Speculation' is an interesting book--a must-read, for sure. (That's not to say I don't have some issues with it...maybe I'll do a little book review sometime). I'm not so sure it's the first book a pure beginner should read, though. I think if you don't already know a bit about investing and the terminology, it could cause some serious glazing-over of the eyes and an accompanying long stream of drool. :dazed052:"

FirefighterB said: "Very true. But, it also didn't strike me as being very "technical," except for his take on disproving technical indicators, besides for having to know the basics. I'd very much like to hear your take on that book, as well as any other's you've read, LA. I agree with Investing for Dummies. Also, I'd add one of the first books I read, The Motley Fool Investment Guide to that list."

Airelon said: ""Trading for a Living" by Dr. Alexander Elder. Discusses money management, and the psychology of trading. Although the principles work for investing too."

Hally said: "Investing for dummies is very good for beginners i read it, liked it and am definitely recommending it, especially for total beginners. Its a good buy"

Hope2BGecko said: "I have been reading everything I can get ahold of. I have read 3 books by Jim Cramer, A book on Warren Buffet...and in that book Warren recommends a book by Ben Graham (cant remember the name) but he calls it the greatest investing book ever so I am also reading that Joshua"
Let me recommend three of my favorite trading books to give you a great start: "Mastering the Trade" by John Carter, "Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques" by Steve Nison, and "How to Make Money in Stocks" by William O'Neill. Also I would suggest you pick up a copy of "The Automatic Millionaire" by David Bach to give you a money mindset you'll need to trade and think about how to manage debt and finances. Learn technical analysis. There's no more important aspect to anything you trade. It's what I live on and the books I recommended to you will give you a great background.
"
