I Want to make some sure money with the Dividend but I want to know how do I know how much a stock pays Dividend. like for this one MSFT on http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=MSFT shows it pays $3.40 per stocks I was wandering if thats how much it will pay me per Dividend and also I need to pay before the Dividend date to count so I can get paid right?
thank you"
lil dickie said: "Yes, that is their annual dividend.
That means they pay .85 cents per share per quarter (Every 90 day). Their most recent ex-div date is 8/15/2005, so you just missed that one. Any stocks you buy now will be eligible for the dividends issued on 11/15/2005 and after."

so your saying I'm going to get .85 cents per share for MSFT not $3.40? for the next pay day?
thank you"
lil dickie said: "Yes, dividends are paid quarterly, so you divide the annual dividend payout by 4."

hello again,
sorry I just don't realy get it what do you mean by quarterly? and will or won't get paid $3.40 (the 12.63% they offer?)
thank you very much for helping me out"
HappyHarry said: "Quarterly is 4 times per year. Once every 90 days. You get 1/4 of the $3.40 paid to you every 90 days."
mskern77 said: "MSFT pays $3.40 per share that you own. That $3.40 is paid annually, on a quarterly basis. So take $3.40 divide it by 4 and what do you get .85 cents paid every three months (90 days) this happens 4 times through out the year which adds up to your $3.40 a share. When you buy MSFT stock or any stock for that matter that pays a dividend, the stock has a cut off date to recieve the dividend. Here if you bought the stock before 8/15/05 than you are eligable for the third quarter dividend (.85 cents). If you buy on 8/16/05 or later you will not recieve the third quarters .85 cents but you will be eligable for the fourth quarter .85 cents and every quarterly dividend there after until you sell the stock.
Make sense?"
HappyHarry said: "I have to admit, that $3.40 dividend looks very appealing."
HappyHarry said: "
Yes..lol, I've been looking at an appealing dividend myself on NFI... very sexy, but the wife says all I can do is look... ;)
At over $5 and with a 16.5% yield, it might be worth leaving her for :)"
kentc said: "the $3.40 you refer to was a special 1 time dividend, going forwaed it is only 8 cents per quarter for MSFT.
Be careful what your looking at."
mumbaibull said: "Hi
Thanks for identifying the stock.
Is there a source where I can get high yield stocks?"

ROTFL!!!
BTW, I am thinking of dumping some, maybe all of my MSFT after I get paid on my dividend Wednesday."
AlfredSokol said: "With a lowered dividend yield it may be worth dumping MSFT.
They have such a huge float its hard to picture the stock every rocketing again."
