He can invest 1500 of that into the RiskFreeProfit pool for members and make the equivalent of a mutual fund that will return 16 % on his 100000.
The pool account is returning 4.73% return aweek. You compound that for a year on 1500 and you will have approx. 16700.
Just another option to think about.
But really a mutual fund that returns 16 % is going to have to do 20 % for you to get 16%"

He might want to do index funds."
dsm091 said: "So we have been looking at the morningstar. I think that we will doing some research, I appreciate the help. Right now he has it sitting in a savings account with 3 percent. It could be doing so much better for him, but he does not want to lose any. I am thinking something conservative. He knows nothing about stocks so I told him to start researching.

AlfredSokol said: "You have the right idea Jayson. You might also consider putting it in 4 different funds, for a little diversification.
Basically the historic records at Morningstar should give you a good idea how these funds perform and should turn up a good one."

can you post the link?"

100k is a nice investment... but nothing to be speculative with (especially on a "army salary"....) Take the prior advice... nice, secure mutual funds with decent returns. No guarantees........ but less risk too. 12% is not unreasonable...(wish I could find a 12% guarantee) but, regardless of past returns... not guaranteed either.... But - that's the market!
Personally - I would spread it around to solid, bricks n morter companies. with good track records...... diversify, diversify, diversify......... (and I should take my own advice ;)
Good luck - hope you do well............"

The more you can count on the company's operating history, the better."

This person wants 12% growth per year, but is interested in Mutual Funds?
Ludicrous."

And this a fund of bonds, so no need to sweat your positions as much when the rates bump, you have a manager dealing with it. The fund trades no fee, no load, $1 minimum for IRAs I know, unsure for other accounts. The expense ratio is pretty low too. Returns are good and secure. About 30% of my IRA is currently in JEMDX. Fortunately for me, I benefit from no tax at the moment on the account so the return is even better."
