If so, will my trading account have to be UK based, or can i deal with pretty much any broker?
Thanks"

most brokers only trade their country stocks. if u want us stocks u will have to get a us broker that accept international(foreigners) accounts ex optionsxpress but the charges are high. You may compare that to the banks in your region and how much they charge per trade and choose the best price.
