Welcome to the Superior Investor Investing Wiki

This section is meant to serve as a well categorized Wiki on the subject of finance and investing. The world of investment has a relatively steep learning curve, so it's important that people build a strong foundation of knowledge based on the basics. Once that foundation is set in place, the stock trading strategy they use will help them make solid returns, instead of being treated remorselessly by the whims of the market. We take a general look at the markets, and investment types, and provide information on most successful stock trading strategies.

Learning the basics is the key to eventual investing success

Investing in the stock market is an activity that goes back hundreds of years. In the United States, the stock market is synonymous with activity that takes place on Wall Street. Purchasing stock in any publicly traded company makes you a stockholder of that company, and entitles you to certain benefits. Many shares have "voting rights" which will help you determine who runs the company and what policies are implemented. Of course your share of the vote is commensurate with your percentage share of stock ownership.

Stock market ownership has grown tremendously in the last century. What was once a field reserved for the elite has become a popular activity in much of the world. Stock markets are booming, from the U.S.A. through Asia.

Many investors jump right in without doing much research

People who don't spend much time researching their investments, tend to buy stocks based on their "story", or because of an emotional appeal. Without sound reasoning, their trades tend to be more reckless than ones that are engineered with an air of calm thought and careful planning. Before you jump into any investment, take the time to learn the particulars, especially the part about how much you can lose.

If you have any questions about how what you find in this glossary, don't hesitate to stop by the Stock Market Forum.

Stock market investment can be a lucrative past-time, but generally only for well-informed market players. New investors who don't do a proper amount of research will find themselves behind in a trade, with no idea how to get out in time to save their skin.

We even look at some Investor profiles to see the examples of many of the most successful investors of all time. Their trading techniques differ quite a bit. You have investors like Warren Buffett who is essentially a conservative value investor, and you have others who swung for the fences like Jesse Livermore.
